Magazine Articles

A club news letter is published every couple of months with full updates on the progress of the club during the chess season. There is a games corner giving players an opportunity to submit their favourite games for publication.

We have also had a series of In-house tuition evenings run by one of the clubs stronger players these sessions have proved very helpful & rewarding.

Committee Meetings

These take place at 3 monthly intervals present are the chairman, secretary, treasurer, team captains, magazine & web site editors where all current topics concerning the club are put under the hammer.

Annual General Meeting

This takes place on the first Monday in June where officers & team captains are elected, team entries for the new season are proposed and presentations to tournament winners are made.

In House Tuition

A chess coach Alex Meynall provides tuition on arranged days. It covers a topic of current interest like openings or middle and end game technique.

Club members who want in depth tuition can arrange a private day at his house. He charges a standard cost for each appointment. Contact John White via e-mail for details

Other interests consist of a fun evening with a themed opening we introduced back in October.

The opening selected was the Petroff

  1. e4 e5
  2. Nf3 Nf6
  3. Nxe5 d6
  4. Nxf7!? Kxf7
  5. d4

Being standard in every game. Excellently run by our own Peter Morton with a time handicap similar to the Christmas tournament. The evening was a big success with a big turn out. When the next one is organised it will be something for the d4 fans.
